Hey there!! It's Leigh Anne from Houseologie. You may remember me from my DIY hand stamped canvas totes that I shared here a while back.

This time I am here with another awesome and easy DIY home decor project. This time I am going to show you how to make DIY shelving using wood and leather. For this project all you have to know how to do is drill a hole, hang a few hooks and tie a couple of knots. I hung these wood and leather shelves in my 6 year old's bedroom, in about 30 minutes, to display some of her favorite things. I couldn't help but style it for Christmas. She's a big fan!

I was trying to use mostly things I had on hand as this was a last-minutevintage cushion covers, spur-of-the-moment project. Sometimes those turn out the best though, don't you think? I had to run to my local home improvement store for the wood but otherwise I already had everything I needed. This post contains some affiliate links. Click here to read my full disclosure policy.

To start you need to decide where you want your shelves to be then secure your picture hanging hooks to the wall. I used nails into studs, inserted at an angle, but if you don't have studs you can use drywall anchors and screws. Use your level to make sure they are even.

Next drilltwo holes on each end of your pine pieces. I measured in a half an inch from each edge, marked the spot then drilled straight through.

Then take your strands of leather string and fold each one in half over on itself and tie it into a knot like the picture above, leaving loops at the top and two strands hanging down.

Now is when an extra pair of hands is helpful. Hang your leather loop on the picture hook then grab one of your boards to thread a string through each hole while your extra pair of hands holds the board. Sit a level on the board to make sure it's level then pull the strings taught and knot them. This may take a few tries to get the knot snug under the board while still keeping the board level, but you can do it. Snip off any extra length and repeat the process with your second shelf.

That's it! We love how these easy shelves turned out! What do you think?

If you love this project, be sure to pin it so you can refer back to it later!

The tutorial for my?Thanksgiving Advent Calendar originally appeared on Moda Bake Shop. I am reposting it here to make it easier for my readers to find the tutorial (too many emails, “where can I find your advent calendar?” *wink*).

From old summer clothes you can prepare for the winter! A?reversible?scarf that has four pockets, two on both sides, keeping your hands and neck warm.

Weighted blankets are all the rage. People are crazy about these, and at $125-$300 a blanket, you started wondering, is it all hype? Why would people pay that much for a blanket?
